Cancer: Melanoma, Cervical, Thyroid
"To those of you fighting right now, be strong, positive & tough. You've got this."
On Dec 9th, 2018 was my TWO year anniversary of being cancer free. My journey hasn’t been as difficult as some, but has been far from easy & has taught me a lot. This was the 3rd time being diagnosed (at the age of 25, I had cervical cancer, then the age of 30 I had melanoma, & again just shy of my 40th birthday, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer) One cannot imagine the pain, confusion and the questions that were racing through my mind. The fear of it coming back has been a constant battle. It was surreal & unfair, especially having my amazing father fight his own cancer battle as this was going on, as he still fights to this day. My mother and sister were going back & forth from hospital to hospital visiting me and taking my dad for his radiation treatments, which was kept a secret from me as they didn’t want me to worry. It was a horrible time, I had to stay in the hospital longer due to several surgery complications.I tried different treatments to try to bring my blood levels back to normal. Scans, blood tests, ultrasounds, hospital visits, several scars & daily medications for the rest of my life are a constant reminder for me. Still, with all this, I can honestly say, although every day is a struggle, I am truly blessed, grateful & appreciative for the life & yet another chance I have been given. I’m so grateful for the love, support, and amazing humor from my family & friends.
To those of you fighting right now, be strong, positive & tough. You’ve got this.
